Ephesians 2:12-13 Remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus, you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
There is a mentality that can sometimes creep in that says that you need to get closer to God. This is often applied to a desire and need to know God better. There is no doubt that you can always grow in your knowledge of God’s will, His thoughts, and His ways. However, you can do nothing more to get closer to God than what Jesus did. You are near to God because of the blood of Christ. This is one of the tremendous benefits of the finished work of Christ. You were far away from God, but Jesus Christ solved that dilemma. Now that you are near, you are on a journey of discovery as you grow in your knowledge and understanding of who God is. You are not far away from God anymore. You are near! There is no more distance between you and God. Stop focusing on the distance and start focusing on your journey of discipleship and growth as a believer. Jesus shed His blood so that you could be close to God, and He also brought you near to God so that you could know Him and have a relationship with Him. Rest in the finished work of Jesus Christ and enjoy the journey of discovering your Heavenly Father’s outstanding characteristics.
